Oh, the things we do for beauty!

I’d say this is definitely one of the Face Pilates exercises that you won’t want to practice on the bus!

It’s ugly!

Here’s how you do it:

  • Open your mouth wide to prepare.
  • Push your bottom jaw forward and close your mouth by dragging your bottom teeth over the bottom of your top lip and teeth.
  • Like a goldfish gulping!
  • Hold for 3 counts.
  • Relax and then do it again!
  • Repeat 5 times!Told you it was ugly!The next exercise is much more elegant…but don’t be fooled.

La Carpa Dorada

¡Las cosas que hacemos para la belleza!

¡Yo diría que este es uno de los ejercicios de Face Pilates que definitivamente no quieres practicar en el autobús!

¡Es feo!

Aquí te explico cómo hacerlo:

  • Abre bien tu boca para prepararte.
  • Empuja tu papada inferior adelante y cierra la boca, arrastrando tus dientes inferiores sobre la parte por debajo de tu labio y dientes superiores.
  • ¡Como traga una carpa dorada!
  • Manténlo durante 3 segundos.
  • ¡Relájate y repite!
  • Repite 5 veces.¡Te dije que es feo!El próximo ejercicio es mucho más elegante…pero no te dejes engañar.

The Chicken Neck

The next exercise in our program to rectify those sagging neck muscles is the ‘Chicken Neck’.

Chicken Neck

  • Relax your shoulders and bring your head to centre.
  • Suck the front of your tongue up to the roof of your mouth, narrowing your neck, drop your chin and push your head forward, like a chicken, until you feel a stretch in your neck.
  • Keep your shoulders down and don’t let them move forward with you.
  • Hold the stretch for 5 counts and then come back to centre.
  • Repeat this exercise 5 more times!

Coming up the Goldfish!  Not an exercise you would probably want to practice on the bus!

El siguiente ejercicio de nuestro programa para rectificar esos músculos caídos del cuello se llama el `Cuello de pollo´.

El cuello de pollo

  • Relaja tus hombros y lleva tu cabeza al centro.
  • Succiona el punto de la lengua hasta la parte superior de la boca, estrechando tu cuello y bajando la barbilla.  Empuja la cabeza adelante como un pollo hasta que sientas un estiramiento en el cuello.
  • Mantén los hombros para abajo y no dejes que se muevan adelante con tu cabeza.
  • Mantén el estiramiento durante 5 segundos y después, vuelve para atrás.
  • ¡Repite 5 veces más!

El próximo ejercico…¡La carpa dorada!  ¡No es un ejercicios para practicar cuando estás en el autobús!

Face exercises have literally been around for centuries!

Believe it or not the person to start the facial exercise trend was born in 1620!

As I’ve started to research the history I have found an amazing and inspiring group of people, both men and women, who, over the past three hundred years have made it their mission to educate the masses about the merits of working out your face.

How to stop neck sag!

In a couple of weeks I’m going to turn 52 and up until this year I haven’t really thought about a sagging neck but all of a sudden I started noticing in photos that gravity was taking hold.  I was horrified!

So I’ve upped the neck exercises to 5 times a week and included them in my daily face routine.

To keep me motivated we are all going to focus on lifting our neck muscles!

Follow me over the coming weeks for our full neck series.  Let’s fight neck sag!

One of my favourite neck exercises is Kiss the Ceiling.  Here’s how you do it:

  • Face front to the mirror, draw your shoulders down, lengthen through your neck.
  • Suck your tongue up to the roof of your month to engage the neck muscles.
  • Lift your chin to the ceiling, keep drawing your shoulders down.
  • Look up to the ceiling – if you have any neck or cervical problems look diagonally in front of you at the wall.
  • Make a  kiss but do not pucker your lips.  Stretch the top lip over your teeth to smooth out the lines.
  • Lengthen through your neck to stretch your neck muscles.
  • Make sure you don’t frown, relax your eyebrows.
  • Breath in, breath out. Hold the stretch for 5 counts.
  • Relax and come back to facing the mirror.
  • Repeat 3 more times!

To see lasting results and stop gravity from taking over you need to make sure you do these exercises at least 3 times a week!

¿Cómo parar la piel caída del cuello?

Dentro de un par de semanas, me voy a cumplir 52 años y hasta ahora no me había pensado en la piel caída del cuello.  Pero de repente, empecé a observar en las fotos que la ley de la gravedad me estaba agarrando.  ¡Qué horror!

Entonces he aumentado los ejercicios del cuello a 5 veces por semana y los incluyo en mi rutina diaria para la cara.

¡Para mantenerme motivada, enfocaremos en el lifting de los músculos del cuello!

Sígueme durante las próximas semanas para nuestra serie completa del cuello.  ¡Luchamos contra la caída de la piel!

Uno de mis ejercicios favoritos para el cuello es el Beso al techo.  Aquí te explico cómo hacerlo:

  • Mírate a un espejo, relaja tus hombros y extiende tu cuello.
  • Succiona la lengua hasta la parte superior de tu boca para activar los músculos del cuello.
  • Levanta tu barbilla hacia el techo, manténlos relajados tus hombros.
  • Dirige la mirada hacia el techo – si tienes problemas cervicales, mira diagonalmente adelante hacia la pared.
  • Forma un beso sin fruncir los labios.  Estira el labio superior sobre los dientes para alisar las líneas.
  • Alarga bien tu cuello para estirar los músculos.
  • Es importante no fruncir.  Relaja las cejas.
  • Inhala, exhala.  Mantén el estiramiento durante 5 segundos.
  • Relaja el cuello, bajándola para mirar al espejo de vuelta.
  • ¡Repite 3 veces más!

¡Para ver resultados duraderos y dejar que la gravedad tome el control de tu cuello, practica estos ejercicios por lo menos 3 veces por semana!

The final exercise in our Daily Eye Lift Routine is the Upper Lid Lift (corner)

When we teach a Face Pilates class in the studio or when you use the Face Pilates App we recommend that you exercise one side of your face first so you can compare the other side half way through the session.

Seeing immediate results is always a good encouragement!

Upper Lid Lift (corner)

This exercise is the second part of the Upper Lid Lift exercises.  For this lift though you are going to place your fingers on a 45 degree angle to the corner of your eyebrow.  Hold your fingers firm and close your eye and look down. Breath in and breath out and hold up for 5 seconds.

Now pull across following the direction of the muscle to your hairline. Don’t open eye until stretch is finished.

Relax.  Repeat 3 more times.

Muscle has memory, so to maintain the changes I recommend that you do the Eye Lifting Routine 5 times a week.

Here’s some amazing results from one of our Face Pilates devotees after doing the full Face Pilates routine 1 hour a week for one year!

Face Pilates is just one of the ingredients to maintaining beautiful youthful eyes so here are some extra tips for you to include in your weekly beauty routine!

Tip 1.  Remove your make up

A natural alternative to eye make up removal is warm water and petroleum jelly.  Yes, good old Vaseline!

Make sure you do not use hot water as this can damage the skin as it will dry it out.

Before you start:   Remember when you do these next two exercises to look at the shape of your eyes and lift the muscle to suit your facial features.  For example if you have almond shaped eyes you will stretch more to the outside of your eye rather that lifting straight up.

What to do:

Place two fingers under the middle of your eyebrow, hold the position and then close your eye and look down.

Keep holding your eyebrow up for 5 seconds and then pull your fingers up and across the direction of the forehead muscle, keeping your eye closed until you reach the edge of your hairline, and relax.

Make sure you breathe and relax your shoulders as you do the exercise.

Now have a look in the mirror and you should see a difference between the eye you have just worked and the other side!

Repeat the exercise 3 more times.

For best results do this at least 5 times a week!

Eye Socket Lift

The second exercise to erase the bags under your eyes is the Eye Socket Lift.

This exercise is similar to the Eye Stretch but your finger is above your cheekbone and you have to lift the muscle all the way to above the eyebrow.

Again, remember that the skin in this area is very fine so you need to adjust the pressure of your finger to suit your skin.  Try not to drag the skin but move the muscle under the skin.

Put your finger in the corner of your eye near your tear duct and breath in, as you breath out take your finger from the corner of your eye, underneath and lift the muscles to the top at the end of your eyebrow.

Repeat this 3 more times on each side.

Crow’s Feet Stretch

We all want to erase those annoying crow’s feet lines that form at the corner of our eyes!

Here’s how!

It only takes a couple of minutes.

Take your pointer fingers and place them at the outer corner of your eye. One pointing down and the other pointing up.  Now stretch the small muscles at corner of eye by pulling one finger to the corner of the eye, and pulling the other to the cheekbone. This is just a small stretch, about 1 cm, along the eye socket bone.

I repeat this 6 times on each side and try to do it every day!
